Sammy, my son's cockatiel, after his/her first molt never grew flight feathers on one wing. Also Sammy continuously grooms, scratches, plucks etc. to the point that he/she has no feathers on the back of the head. Bird seems fine and healthy other than the fact hat it looks a little Bald? Sammy has also taken out almost all of the tail feathers. Bird is around 1 year or so old and due to the lack of 1 wing and some tail feathers cant fly very well. Could this balding and lack of growth of flight feathers on one wing be the sysmptom of some deficiency in diet. Your reply and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

John,

You didn't mention what mutation the bird is. A bald spot on top of the head is quite common in the lutino mutation (yellow or white). It appears though, there are other areas of concern. Plucking can be a symptom of a diet defiency as well as a couple of other problems. This type of concern would be better addressed by an avian vet.
