We have had two cockatiels for approximately 12 years and one which we believe to be female is now showing signs of old age. Her top beak has grown nearly down to her chest and her bottom beak has spread outwards, she is a very timid bird and it would be difficult to take her to a vet. We are not sure how old she was when she was given to us and we are now worried as to her health. She is still managing to eat her food but is tired and sleeps most of the time. Any suggestions?

Regards,

Glenn

Glenn,

No matter how difficult it would be to take this bird to the vet, you need to do just that, ASAP. Her overgrown beak is probably the reason that she is so tired and sleeping all the time. Once her beak has been properly trimmed, you will probably see a big change in the bird.
