I am currently bird-sitting for a friend. Her bird is a young male cockatiel. My problem is that he squawks all the time and I find it very annoying. I have tried giving him more attention as well as less attention but nothing seems to help. Since I will be taking care of him for about two more weeks, is there any way to keep him quieter or should i just accept this as part of his personality? I guess I am not meant to be a bird care giver but now that I am in the situation, do you have any advice on how to make the best of it? Thanks.

Sara

Sara,

You mention that you have tried giving the tiel more attention, but you didn't mention what you were doing. Is he tame enough to be let out of the cage? Does he have his regular toys? There could be a few causes and it is also possible he behaves this way all the time. Since it is for only two more weeks, you're probably better off to just continue trying to calm him an accept him as is.
