I am worried about my
cockatiel, She is constantly chirping (sort of a cross
between a whistle and a screech really), every 5 seconds
or so. She is also starting to bit much harder. She is out
of her cage every night and nearly all day. I have tried
keeping her in a dimly lit room (as advised in Incessant
Screeching) but this does not seem to work. The only time
she stops is when she is a sleep or when she first gets a
pat. She is only young (not sure exactly how old. she also
used to do this occasionally when she was but into her cage
when we had visitors over (sort of a cry for attention) but
she constantly is receiving attention from myself and my
girl friend.
Can you help us? Should we get her a mate?
Thank you.

Dalle,
The constant screeching is usually associated with a hen that has desires of
mating. Othen than reducing the length of lighting, there's only a couple of
choices left.
You could find her a mate, for her natural instincts may not be satisfied any other way, or have her examined by an avian vet, and if everything else is normal, she'll pass thru this stage in time. Occasionally we can't fool Mother Nature.
