Dickens again! What is going on when Dickens opens his mouth and sticks out his tongue as though he is choking. He will repeat this several times and then stops he does no appear to be in distress. I have only noticed this happening infrequently.

We think what you describe as choking is what some describe as yawning, but whichever it is, is common in cockatiels. Some breeders feel it is a way for the tiel to clear minor obstructions, while others feel they may actually be yawning.
