My cockatiel is very a very finicky eater... How can I get her to eat her seeds and what food will enable her to gain weight ???

Pete and Gail

Gail and Pete,

Some cockatiels are finicky eaters but most usually will eat seed. If she doesn't eat seed, she must have a preference for pellets an that (pellets) seems to be the choice these days.

Gaining weight is totally different than feeding a nutritionally balanced diet to insure a healthy cockatiel. While some cockatiels continue to grow until they are about two years old, some reach their physical maturity as early as six months.

Seed or pellets, with a fresh vegetable or fruit daily, should be sufficient to maintain your birds good health. It can sometimes take a few weeks for the bird to discover they like the new menu, so be persistent and offer it daily until they acquire new tastes.
