I have two cockatiels, and both refuse to eat fresh fruits or vegetables. The only food they will eat besides seed is steamed rice. Could you tell me what fruits or vegetables that cockatiels like the most? And do you know of any techniques to get them eating these? I don't either of them have really eaten fresh foods in their life. One was born this January, the other 2 years old.

Michael,

It takes time for birds to acquire a fondness for foods they aren't used to being offered. Here are some vegetables we feed. Corn (on the cob or canned), turnip greens, collard greens, carrots, broccoli, sweet potatoes, squash, mustard greens, green beans, whole wheat bread, apple slices and orange slices.

Again, it takes time, so just keep offering and one day they'll learn to like veggies and fruits. By the way, all these are thoroughly washed and served raw.
