We have obtained a new tiel. Now our original male bird, 3 yrs. old, has turned to biting and other agressive behaviour. The new female is a 17 wk. old handfed whiteface. Up until now, George was quite tame. He is now all but unmanageable. We have had Sydney only 2 days. We understand that an adjustment period is necessary, and have kept them apart, except during supervised outings. We have given George plenty of love and attention, but our hands are starting to look like hamburger. Sydney is quiet tame and loves to be handled, she prefers people over George. Can you offer any advice on how we may get our old lovable George back?

When introducing a new bird into your home that includes another bird quarantining should be your first priority. We know how hard that can be to do, you just want to enjoy the new guy. Hopefully all's well so let's get to your question.

Old loveable George is probably confused. He has gotten used to all of the attention and his territory has been invaded. It sounds like you are doing the right things. Extra attention without Sydney being around and a box of Band-Aids with a big dose of patience on your part and hopefully time will heal all.
