I am writing to you to inquire about older cockatiels. I have two, one is 19 years old and the other is about 10 years old.
I am wondering if there is any advice anyone can give me about aging birds. My birds do not act geriatric; both of them are as inquisitive and mischievous as the day I brought them into my home. However, I am still curious if there is anything I should be aware of (i.e., special nutritional needs, symptoms of particular illnesses in aging cockatiels, etc.).
Thank you!
Marie
Marie,
Two symptoms to look for with aging birds are feather loss and lethargy.
It appears to us, you have done a magnificent job caring for your 'tiels and whatever it is you have been doing, keep it up. As for specific nutritional needs, you would need to have a vet determine any deficiencies it may have, if any, and remedy those accordingly.
Thanks for being a responsible companion for your birds.
