This morning at about 9:30 my ex-wife was playing with my daughter's 6 month old grey. She had also put the dog outside and had gone to get the dog. The bird followed her to the door and when it opened flew outside.
The bird stayed in the area for about one and half hours (the first 15 to 30 minutes flying around the house). She called me and asked if I knew anything to do and I suggested to put the cage which is the bird's home outside and maybe the bird will come to its house.
I went over and tried whistling the song my son had taught the bird and about fifteen minutes later the bird flew over and circled the area a few times. Since then the bird has not been seen.
Additionally, a heavy line of thunderstorms moved through the New Orleans area around 1:00PM.
Any suggestion that would encourage the bird to come home. I suggested placing an ad in the lost and found section of the newspaper but realize it will be Tuesday at the earliest before the ad will run, four days later.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bart
Bart,
Putting an ad in the lost and found section of your local newspaper
is a great idea. Also, call all the vets in the area and the animal
shelters to let them know about your bird. Many people will call the vet
and animal shelters first about a pet that they have found. Inform all your
neighbors that your bird has escaped too so that they can keep an eye out
for it as well. The more people that know about the bird, the better chance
you have of getting it back.
Leave the birds cage outside with the door open and if you have a tape of your bird whistling or any cockatiel whistling that you can play might also help lure the bird home.
