My bird Minnie has broken her or his tail feathers. Now there is just a stub there. Should I worry about pulling the feathers out? I heard if they are left in the new feathers will not come in. What do you recommend?

Sandy

Sandy,

We don't recommend that anyone pull feathers unless they are experienced. New feathers may contain blood and if you pull one of these, severe bleeding can occur thereby placing the bird in danger of bleeding to death.

When Minnie goes through her next molt, these feathers will fall out naturally and be replaced by new ones. If an experienced person pulls these feathers out for you, it simply speeds up the process of new ones growing back.
