I have a nipping problem with my 13 week old cockatiel, Sydney. She has been biting ever since i got her a few weeks ago. She's hand-fed and can be really sweet sometimes. Is this just a baby thing? Do you have any suggestions on how to stop this?
Thanks,
Rhiannon
Rhiannon,
At 13 weeks, your Sidney is still a baby. Birds utilize their beaks as another "hand" and you need to distinguish that from being aggressive or nippy. If Sidney's actions are aggressive rather than her using her beak to aid herself, you must continue to comfort her and buil her trust in you. If she still isn't startled or afraid, that bonding between you two should continue to grow and when she realizes you are her friend, we think the nipping will cease.
