My 2 year old cockatiel, Sid (after Sid Vicious - 'cuz of the hairdo!) loves to eat newspaper. When he is let out of his cage he heads straight for the nearest paper, and he doesn't discriminate between local newspaper, mail order catalogue, library book, Visa bill - as long as it's paper he'll have a go. Is this healthy?

We can't say whether or not it's healthy, but it isn't unusual. Perhaps the biggest negative aspect is using newspaper on cage bottoms is cockatiel's just love to shred paper into zillions of pieces, leaving a mountain of confetti for us to clean up.
