My husband just got Tweety today as a Father's Day Gift. His Daughter picked Tweety up yesterday at 11 am from a breeder she has purchased from before. He's only two months old and was hissing when he first came over. We went out for dinner after about an hour, and after we got bock, we brought him upstairs to our home office, and my husband put him on his shoulder in the recliner. He picked at my husband's ear, neck, and glasses, then cuddled up to his face and went to sleep. Before he did, we heard "shu, shu" sound several times. I don't know what a bird sneeze sounds like, it could have been a hiss. Does this sound like a problem? ( He isn't doing it in his cage now that he's asleep again.)

Also, we've placed him in the middle of our bay window, which gets shaded light, so he can watch the outside trees and birds in our front yard. There is an HVAC vent there which we closed and covered with magazines. I do keep the thermostat on the first floor at 70 degrees for best comfort upstairs and down. With the vent covered do you think he will be happy in the shaded window?

And since he cuddled up and slept by my husband's face on the very first day, does he sound like he is going to be loving and friendly, since he's so young?

Thanks for help...we are very new to this, our very first bird.

Congratulations! Tweety sounds like a really sweet companion and we know you will all enjoy each other's company.

Closing the HVAC vent is probably a good idea, though most cockatiels are very hardy and adapt well to new environment. Chilling is one of the biggest concerns with birds. They can adjust to temperatures from 30 degrees to 95 degrees as long as they are acclimated properly and properly means gradually. Usually, whatever temperature is comfortable to you is okay for them.

As long as the bay window is draft free, Tweety should enjoy the scenery though sometimes they do become startled by unfamiliar objects flying by.
