What can one do if a cockatiel with unclipped wings manages to escape from home? Any suggestions?

Trying to catch a bird with unclipped wings is difficult at best, besides being stressful for both owner and escapee. Thankfully we've never had to face the tragedy, however, here are some suggestions from several articles we've come across over the years.

Follow your bird as long as possible. Birds not accustomed to long flights may tire easily.

Report your lost bird to your neighbors, area pet stores, animal shelters, bird clubs and veterinarians. Spread the word to as many people as possible.

Bait a trap type cage tempting the bird with its favorite treats.

If you have an audio tape of cockatiels, playing it could attract its attention.

If you are successful in capturing your bird, clip it's wings, have it checked thoroughly by an avian vet and be thankful.
