I have a four month old cockatiel (handfed) who is out of his cage whenever I am home. During the weekends I visit a friend that lives an hour away and has a cockatiel herself. Would it be a bad idea to take my bird with me? Will my friend's cockatiel make my bird less friendly towards people and can the drive there hurt my cockatiel?

Nikki,

There could possibly be some behavior changes if your 'tiel takes a liking to your friend's. Each bird's personality is different and it's impossible to predict what changes, if any, would take place. There is also the matter of health concerns any time you expose your bird to another one, regardless of how healthy they appear. Birds can be carriers of disease and never show symptoms.

Obviously, it is your and your friend's choice to make and if you decide to carry your 'tiel along for the visit, there shouldn't be any problem associate to traveling as long as your 'tiel is riding in a travel type cage.
